Brave Guitarist Who Takes Chances The New York Times February 11, 1999 Jorge Caballero, a Peruvian guitarist who completed his studies in New York, won the Naumburg Competition in 1996, when he was 19. He had by then already won several competitions in South America and had considerable touring experience, and when he gave his New York debut recital in 1997 as part of his Naumburg Award, his unusual combination of a deft, powerful technique and a soft-spoken interpretive persona made a strong impression.... more... |

Guitarist Provides a Blend Of Technique and Touch The New York Times March 1, 1997 In its 70-year history, the Walter W. Naumburg Foundation has sponsored competitions for piano, voice and most of the orchestral instruments, but it was only last year that the foundation turned its attention to the guitar. Jorge Caballero, a 19-year-old guitarist from Peru, won the foundation's first guitar competition, and as part of his prize he was presented in his New York debut recital at Merkin Concert Hall.... more... |

L.A. Phil’s Spanish Program Becomes a Dance of Sound Los Angeles Times February 7, 2000 Peruvian guitarist Jorge Caballero was a dazzling, magical soloist in Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez”. His playing in the slow movements was the stuff of gossamer lightness, evoking vanished historical glories in phrasing almost more breathed than heard. (So too was the musicality of English horn player Carolyn Hove.) more... |

I have seen the Future of the Guitar and its name is “Caballero” Rosewood Guitar/Seattle Guitar Society July 1, 1997 I can’t tell you how excited I was when I heard about Jorge Caballero’s program. I’d been talking with a good friend in the San Francisco area when he asked “Have you heard about Caballero’s program?” Ponce Folia Variations, Bach Sonata 1034, Giuliani Rossiniane, Carter Changes – Oh My God! There was more! This is the toughest programming I have ever seen. Who is this guy? Who has the guts to not only play some of the most intellectually complex music, but program piece after piece of this technically monstrous material? Who? Jorge Caballero. more... |

Guitar Review
September 1, 2001 Every so often a young guitarist of exceptional talent appears on the concert circuit and the word “prodigy” makes the rounds. Sometimes it is justified; often it is questionable; many times it is simply not true. When used (as it so often is) in regards to Jorge Caballero it is an understatement. more... |

An Hour of Excellence by Peruvian Magician Jorge Caballero CGSUNY Newsletter October 1, 2006 We were honored this year by a special one hour ALL BACH concert by a living GENIUS and that GENIUS is in the form of the Gentle persona of the "GENTLE MAN" (the direct definition of his last name) JORGE CABALLERO! Jorge just turned 30 and I have been lucky to have personally known him since he was 19. I caught my first glimpse of this outstanding musician in a Masterclass of the supreme Classical Guitar Duo of the ASSAD BROTHERS when they gave a Masterclass at The Manhattan School of Music. I will never forget that day as Jorge played the most magnificent BACH I have heard in my life! more... |

If you were one of the lucky ones with a seat at the Sunday afternoon concert by Peruvian native Jorge Caballero, you heard a guitarist that would simply put all the others to shame. more... |
